📋 BGV Hold · Time-critical · Usually 48–72 hrs

BGV flagged a PF mismatch and your joining date is on hold? Here's the fastest fix.

Background verification pulled your EPFO service history and found a date that doesn't match what you declared — almost always because an old employer never marked your exit, or two employers' dates overlap. Compare your UAN service history against your offer letter today; most of these clear in 48–72 hours once the right correction is filed.

What to do next

How to clear a BGV PF-mismatch hold

Follow this in order — skipping ahead usually costs more time, not less.

01

Confirm what's actually wrong

Compare the BGV flag against your real UAN service history — is it a genuinely wrong date, or an old employer who never marked your exit?

02

If DOE was never marked, ask the old employer to mark it

This is the fastest fix — via UAN portal → Employer login → Employee DOE. Most HR teams can do this within a day if asked directly.

03

If the old employer is unresponsive, use a joint declaration

You and your current employer (or a self-declaration route with evidence) can file a joint declaration to correct the record without the old employer's cooperation.

04

Keep the new employer informed in writing

Share your evidence and the fact that correction is in progress — most BGV agencies will hold the file open if they can see active movement.

05

Recheck your service history once DOE is marked

The BGV report should clear within a few days after EPFO reflects the correction.

🛡

Do not do this:

  • Never submit a duplicate claim or a second BGV declaration while one is already in process.
  • Never share your UAN password, Aadhaar OTP, bank OTP, or net-banking login with anyone, including a consultant.
  • Don't invent or guess a joining/exit date on any form — a wrong date you submit becomes a new record error to fix later.
  • Don't ask your new employer to skip or falsify the BGV finding — that can cost you the offer outright.

Field notes / FAQ

Common questions on BGV PF-mismatch holds

Will a PF mismatch automatically fail my background verification? +
Not usually. Most BGV agencies will hold the file open if you show you're actively correcting the EPFO record — an outright fail is more common when there's no response at all.
How long does the old employer take to mark my exit date? +
It can be done same-day once someone in HR actually does it — the delay is almost always about getting a response, not the portal step itself.
Can my offer be confirmed while the correction is still pending? +
Many employers will proceed once they see documented evidence the correction is filed and in process — this varies by company, so keep your new employer informed directly.
What if the old employer has shut down or I can't reach anyone? +
A joint declaration or self-declaration route with supporting evidence (payslips, relieving letter) can substitute for employer cooperation in this case.
