Compliance health check
A ranked gap report: what's wrong, what it exposes you to, and what to fix first.
Compliance gaps stay invisible until hiring, a complaint, a client audit or an inspection finds them. The health check finds them first, across PF, ESI, payroll filings, labour-law registers and contractors, and ranks them so you know where to start.
Who it's for: Businesses that want to know where they stand before someone else checks: ahead of an audit, due diligence, fast hiring, or simply after a few years without a look.
Fee, scope and timeline in writing before any work. No guaranteed-outcome promises.
Does this apply to you?
If one or more of these is true, the health check is a sensible first step.
- You're not sure your PF and ESI records match what payroll believes.
- Nobody can show proof of payment for every statutory challan.
- Registers haven't been checked against what your state requires.
- Contractors supply workers and their paperwork is taken on trust.
- A client audit, investor diligence or inspection is coming.
What's reviewed
Only the areas I already work on for businesses. Each links to the full service.
PF / EPFO
- UANs without KYC approval
- Missing or mismatched dates of joining and exit, unlinked member IDs
- Employees in payroll but not in the ECR, and the reverse
- Contribution values that don't reconcile to the wage register
ESI / ESIC
- Coverage by location and implemented-area status
- Coverage by wage ceiling, including mid-period crossings
- Components in the wage base
Payroll statutory filings
- PF, ESI, PT, TDS and LWF computation and filing
- Challan generated, challan paid, receipt filed
- Exit and full-and-final records
Labour-law registers
- Statutory registers maintained in the required form
- Records reconcilable to payroll
- Which registers apply in each state you operate in
Contractor compliance
- Contractors' registrations and licences
- Remittance evidence against deployed workers
- Your principal-employer position
What's not included
- Fixing the gaps. That's a separate project or retainer, quoted in writing, if you want me to do it.
- A full labour-law audit with a management summary for a board or investor pack. See the labour law audit.
- No guaranteed outcome and no legal representation. Where a matter needs a lawyer, a qualified labour-law professional handles it.
- I never ask for UAN passwords, portal OTPs, Aadhaar OTPs or bank logins, from you or your employees.
What you get
A list you can act on, not an opinion.
The ranked gap report
- Findings ranked by severity and by the effort to fix them.
- An evidence index: what was reviewed, and what was requested and not available.
- What each gap takes to close, so you can decide what to act on.
Each finding carries
- What is wrong
- The requirement it relates to
- The evidence reviewed
- The exposure if it's left unaddressed
- The fix
- Who has to do it
How it runs
Three steps, each agreed before the next.
15-minute call
Free, and about fit and scope only: which areas to cover, how many establishments and states, and what records exist.
Written scope, fee and timeline
Before any work. The timeline depends on entity count, states, headcount and how much of the record is retrievable.
Review, then the ranked report
The areas above reviewed against your actual records, then the report walked through with you. You decide what to act on.
Pricing approach
Always a written quote. The 15-minute call is free and covers fit and scope only.
One-off project
Written quote based on scope
A defined piece of work with a written scope, fee and timeline, agreed before it starts.
What's fixed, whatever the number
- Never a percentage of your PF balance or payroll value. Fees reflect the work involved, not the size of your account.
- Fee, scope and timeline confirmed in writing before any billable work begins.
- No surprise scope expansion. If something outside the agreed scope comes up, it's raised and confirmed separately, not billed silently.
What the fee depends on
- Number of establishments and states
- Employee count
- How much of the record is retrievable
Questions about the health check
What is the compliance health check?
A paid review of your PF, ESI, payroll statutory filings, labour-law registers and contractor compliance, ending in a ranked gap report: what's wrong, what it exposes you to, what fixing it takes, and who has to do it.
Is it free?
No. The 15-minute call before it is free and covers fit and scope only. The health check itself is paid, with the fee, scope and timeline confirmed in writing before any work begins. It's never a percentage of your payroll.
How long does it take?
It depends on entity count, states, headcount and how much of the record is retrievable. The call establishes that before any commitment, and the written scope carries the timeline.
What do you need from us?
Access to the records being reviewed, such as payroll registers, ECR and challan history, registers and contractor documents, as agreed in the scope. I never ask for UAN passwords, portal OTPs, Aadhaar OTPs or bank logins, from you or your employees.
What happens after the report?
You decide. Some businesses fix the gaps themselves with the report. Others ask me to handle them as a project, such as PF record remediation, or as a monthly retainer. Either way it's quoted in writing first.
We already have a CA and a payroll vendor. Is this still useful?
Usually, yes. A CA handles tax and statutory filing and a payroll vendor runs the salary cycle; neither is usually accountable for whether registrations are complete, whether contractor documentation would survive an inspection, or whether employee records at EPFO match what payroll believes. I work alongside them, not instead of them.
Start with where you stand.
Tell me roughly what you're seeing. The call covers which areas the health check should include and what it would take.
- I call you back within one working day, or WhatsApp you if you prefer.
- 15 minutes on fit and scope: what applies to you and whether I'm the right person for it.
- If it's a fit, you get the scope, fee and timeline in writing before any paid work. You decide from there.
