EPFO Date Changed or Reverted After Migration? How to Correct DOJ/DOE and Service History
Your EPFO Date of Joining or Date of Exit was corrected, maybe through an approved Joint Declaration, and after EPFO's 2026 data migration the old date is showing again. What is officially known, what members report, the evidence to keep, and the route that still works.
My EPFO date was corrected earlier but it reverted after the migration. What should I do?
First save a dated screenshot of your current service history and compare it with older records. Gather proof that the earlier correction was approved, such as the Joint Declaration status or SMS. Then check whether online correction is available for that Member ID. If not, go through your employer, the EPFO office or EPFiGMS with that evidence.
This guide doesn't help if your dates were never corrected and are simply wrong from the start: use DOJ / DOE correction. If the Member ID isn't your job at all, that is a de-link, see delinking a wrong Member ID. If two real jobs show the same months, see service overlap. It also can't tell you the exact technical cause of your change: EPFO hasn't published one for individual records.
"I corrected my EPFO Date of Joining last year. The Joint Declaration was approved and the right date was showing. Now the old date is back. Did EPFO roll back my correction?"
If your EPFO date changed after migration like this, this guide is for you. It covers dates that look reverted, rolled back, reversed or changed on their own after EPFO's 2026 data migration, including a Date of Exit or service history that no longer matches what you saw before, and what you can do about it.
What is official and what isn't. EPFO has officially confirmed the 2026 database migration. EPFO has not, as far as I can find, said that Joint Declaration corrections were rolled back or reversed during it. Where this guide talks about reverted dates, it describes problems members report and patterns I see in individual cases, not an official EPFO finding.
What is the problem?
In July 2026, the Labour Minister announced that EPFO had moved its member records from more than 120 regional databases into one national database under the CITES 2.01 project, about 340 million accounts in all, with the rollout done in phases (Business Standard; ANI). Before that, a PIB release of 25 June 2026 announced the planned database consolidation and software upgrade under EPFO 2.01, with claims, e-passbook, the Member Portal, UMANG and the Employer Portal unavailable from 26 June (PIB). The new portal shows membership details, service and pensionable-service records in one place.
After the launch, members complained that data from older EPF accounts was missing on the revamped portal, along with login failures and slow claims (Business Standard, 26 July 2026). Those were member reports, not an EPFO statement, and they did not mention joining or exit dates specifically. For what else changed, see EPFO 3.0 and CITES: what changed.
Since then, some members have found that:
- a Date of Joining they had corrected shows the old date again;
- an approved Joint Declaration correction is no longer reflected;
- a Date of Exit or service period looks different from before;
- the online correction option they used earlier is no longer available to them.
A typical example, given only as an illustration:
- Date of Joining in the record: 1 April 2019 (wrong).
- The member files a Joint Declaration with the real date: 15 January 2019.
- It is approved and the service history shows 15 January 2019.
- EPFO's data migration is completed.
- The service history shows 1 April 2019 again.
The member did everything right once. The task now is to prove that, and to find the route that is still open.
DOJ, DOE, Member ID and service history in one minute
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| UAN | Your one lifelong EPFO number |
| Member ID | A separate account for each employer you worked with |
| Date of Joining (DOJ) | When you joined that employer, as the employer reported it |
| Date of Exit (DOE) | When you left that employer |
| Service history | All your Member IDs with their joining and exit dates |
Dates are recorded per Member ID. One wrong date affects that job's record, but it can still block a claim, a transfer, background verification or your EPS service history.
For example, your offer letter and CV say you joined on 1 April 2022, but EPFO shows 15 May 2022. That alone doesn't mean anyone gave false information, but a verifier may ask about it, and proof of an earlier correction answers the question quickly.
Why can a date look rolled back after migration?
EPFO hasn't published a technical explanation for individual date changes, so nobody outside EPFO can tell you the exact cause of yours. These are the possibilities I check, none of them confirmed for any particular case:
| What you see | Possible issue (not confirmed) |
|---|---|
| Old DOJ appears again after a correction | The earlier correction was not carried into the consolidated record |
| Approved Joint Declaration no longer reflected | The change sits in one record but not in the one the portal now reads |
| Different dates across Member IDs | Inconsistency between linked Member IDs after a transfer |
| Correction option missing | A limit based on your UAN category, claim or transfer status |
| Date "changed" that you never corrected | The error was always there; the new portal simply shows it more clearly |
The last row matters. Not every "new" error is new, which is why the first step is always to compare, not to file a fresh request straight away.
How to check your EPFO record
- On the EPFO Member Portal, open your service history and take a dated screenshot.
- Note the establishment, Member ID, joining date and exit date for every job.
- Compare them with older screenshots, passbooks, your appointment and relieving letters.
- Check whether a Joint Declaration was filed or approved earlier, and find that evidence.
- Check the claim and transfer history of each Member ID: what was transferred, withdrawn or settled.
Why online correction may not be available
Under EPFO's January 2025 simplification, members whose UAN was issued through Aadhaar from 1 October 2017 can correct details including date of joining and date of leaving themselves, without employer verification or EPFO approval. For older UANs some changes need the employer's certification, and where the UAN isn't Aadhaar-validated a physical Joint Declaration is needed (All India Radio). Corrected dates are reportedly accepted only where they match your contribution record (Business Standard).
So there is no single "correct my date" button that works for everyone. The option may be restricted or missing because of:
- when your UAN was issued, and whether it is Aadhaar-validated;
- a pending or settled claim on that Member ID;
- a completed transfer out of that Member ID;
- the Member ID being inactive, or the establishment closed;
- the change needing employer certification;
- the new date not matching the contribution record;
- the field having been corrected before.
The exact route depends on your record. Two members with the same symptom can need very different steps.
What is a Joint Declaration, and why your old approval matters
A Joint Declaration is EPFO's process for correcting profile details, including Date of Joining, Date of Leaving and reason of leaving, with the member's declaration and, where required, the employer's. EPFO's SOP version 3.0 of July 2024 set out the process (EPFO circular). It was replaced by a simplification circular of 16 January 2025, which sorts members into three categories and sets who approves which change (copy of the circular). Portal screens change, so follow what the current Member Portal shows rather than an old video.
If your correction has disappeared, the approval of your earlier Joint Declaration is your strongest evidence. It shows the record was examined and changed once. Without it, you may be treated as a fresh applicant and asked to prove everything again.
What documents may be required?
Before filing anything, build one evidence file:
- Screenshot of the old, wrong date, if you saved one.
- Screenshot of the corrected date after approval.
- Joint Declaration acknowledgement, status page, approval SMS or email.
- Employer confirmation of your actual joining or exit date.
- Appointment or offer-acceptance letter.
- Salary slips for the first and last months.
- Attendance records, where relevant.
- Transfer claim details and settlement letter.
- Withdrawal or final settlement details.
- A dated screenshot of the current service history.
Together they show three things: what the record said, that a change was approved, and what it says now. That is far stronger than "the date is wrong". Share copies only through official channels.
Put it in a timeline
The point of the evidence file is not volume. It is a dated sequence anyone reviewing the case can follow in a minute, for example:
| When | What happened | Proof |
|---|---|---|
| 2019 | Joined the employer | Appointment letter, first salary slip |
| 2023 | Wrong DOJ noticed | Old screenshot |
| 2023 | Joint Declaration filed and approved | Acknowledgement, approval SMS |
| 2023–2026 | Corrected DOJ visible | Screenshot or passbook |
| July 2026 | EPFO data migration | PIB release |
| Now | Old DOJ showing again | Today's dated screenshot |
Use only genuine records. Never create, back-date or alter a document to "prove" a date. It can sink an otherwise sound case.
How to correct it
- Online, if it is open to you. If the Member Portal lets you correct the date for that Member ID, use it, with the date that matches your contributions.
- Through your employer. If the change needs employer certification, ask the employer's HR or payroll team to approve the Joint Declaration, and give them your evidence file.
- Through the EPFO office. Where the employer has closed or the online route is blocked, the request goes to the EPFO field office with your documents. Without an employer, genuine evidence carries the case: appointment and relieving letters, salary slips, bank statements showing salary credits, Form 16, work emails and your earlier EPFO records.
- Through a grievance. If a correction you already had approved is no longer reflected, raise it on EPFiGMS, say plainly that an approved correction is no longer showing, and attach the approval evidence and both screenshots.
What you can do yourself for free. Checking your service history, filing a Joint Declaration on the Member Portal and raising a grievance on EPFiGMS cost nothing. EPFO's own services are free. NidhiSetu is an independent consultancy, not EPFO, and you don't need anyone's help to use these routes.
If your PF transfer has already been settled
A settled transfer moves your balance, and ideally your past service, into the new Member ID. A wrong date on the old Member ID can then be harder to correct. Don't send a second correction blindly; check first:
- which Member ID now shows the wrong date;
- whether the old Member ID is still visible and marked as transferred;
- which service period was carried over, and whether it matches your real dates;
- whether the old employer is still active and reachable;
- whether the date change alters your pensionable service.
A second, conflicting request can make the record harder to fix. If service is missing after a transfer, also see service history missing after transfer.
If you have already withdrawn your PF
Withdrawal makes the case more involved, but it doesn't by itself make every historical date permanent. What changes is the route: the self-service option may not apply to that Member ID, and the correction may need to go through the employer, the EPFO field office or a grievance.
Ask whether the date still matters. If it affects EPS service, a pension claim or background verification, it is usually worth pursuing. If it affects nothing, you may reasonably leave it.
Patterns I see in these cases
These are anonymised patterns, not individual client stories.
- Approved correction, old date back. The approval SMS and an old screenshot became the core of the grievance.
- Transfer done, option gone. The online option wasn't available for the old Member ID, so the request went through the EPFO office.
- Withdrawn years ago, questioned now. A new employer's verification raised an old joining date on a withdrawn Member ID.
- Two Member IDs overlapping. One employer never marked an exit; the next marked a joining date. The earlier exit date had to be fixed first.
- Employer closed. Employer certification was impossible, so alternative proof and the field-office route were needed.
- Pension service affected. A wrong joining date shortened the pensionable service shown, and was corrected before retirement rather than after.
How I handle these cases
I have handled cases where members discovered discrepancies in their service history only when they tried a transfer, a withdrawal, a background verification or a pension claim. The cases that move fastest are rarely the ones with the most paper. They are the ones where the member can show a clear before and after: what the record said, what was approved, and what it says now.
I handle these cases professionally and only through EPFO's official channels: the Member Portal, the Joint Declaration process, the EPFO field office and EPFiGMS, together with the employer wherever the process needs the employer's certification. I don't use shortcuts, contacts or any route outside EPFO's own process, and I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login.
What looks like a "wrong DOJ" often turns out to sit somewhere else: an old Member ID, a transfer record, a wrong exit date on the previous job, or an overlap. So I rebuild the whole chain first: employment, Member ID, joining and exit dates, contributions, earlier corrections, transfers, claims, and the current record.
Every case is different. Before deciding the route, I look at your service history, claim and transfer history, the documents you have and the nature of the discrepancy. I can help identify the right correction or escalation route and prepare the papers, but EPFO and your employer make the decisions, so I can't promise the outcome.
Common mistakes
- Filing several requests in quick succession. One well-prepared request through the right route is better than three hurried ones.
- Entering a date that doesn't match the contribution record.
- Losing the old approval SMS or screenshots, the evidence that matters most here.
- Sharing your UAN password or OTP with anyone who offers to fix it.
Correction rolled back and the online option is gone?
These are some of the hardest EPFO cases I see, because the member did everything right once and now has to prove it again, often with the online option closed and a transfer or withdrawal already settled.
I work on these cases only through EPFO's official channels, the Member Portal, the Joint Declaration process, the EPFO field office and EPFiGMS, together with your employer wherever the process needs the employer. I don't use shortcuts, contacts or anything outside EPFO's own process, and I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login. I look at your service history, claim and transfer history and documents first, then tell you which route is realistically open.

Questions people ask
Why did my EPFO Date of Joining change after the migration?
EPFO has confirmed it moved all member records into one national database under CITES 2.01 in July 2026. It has not published a cause for individual date changes. Some members report that a corrected date went back to the old one; in other cases the error was always there and the new portal shows it more clearly.
Did EPFO officially roll back Joint Declaration corrections?
No official EPFO statement says that Joint Declaration corrections were rolled back or reversed during the migration. Reverted dates are reported by members and seen in individual cases. Treat it as a record problem on your account and correct it through EPFO's official routes with your evidence.
My Joint Declaration was approved but the old date is showing. What should I do?
Keep your Joint Declaration approval evidence, screenshots of the corrected date and a dated screenshot of the current service history. Then check whether a fresh online correction is available for that Member ID. If it isn't, raise it through your employer, the EPFO office or EPFiGMS, attaching the evidence.
Can EPFO DOJ be corrected after PF withdrawal or a settled transfer?
Withdrawal or a settled transfer doesn't by itself make a date permanent, but the self-service route may not apply to that Member ID. The correction may need your employer, the EPFO field office or a grievance, depending on your record.
Why is the online DOJ correction option not available to me?
It can depend on when your UAN was issued and whether it is Aadhaar-validated, on claim or transfer status, on the Member ID's status, on whether the employer must certify the change, and on whether the new date matches your contribution record.
Can a wrong DOJ or DOE affect my EPS pension service?
Yes. Pensionable service is worked out from your service periods, so a wrong joining or exit date can misstate it. It is easier to correct before a pension claim than after.
What if my previous employer has closed or won't help?
Check whether your UAN category lets you correct the date yourself. If employer certification is needed and the employer has closed or refuses, the case usually goes to the EPFO field office or EPFiGMS with whatever proof of the actual dates you can collect.
Can NidhiSetu help with a date that reverted after migration?
Yes. I review your service history, claim and transfer history and documents, then explain the possible correction or escalation route. I work only through EPFO's official channels and the employer, and I can't guarantee EPFO's decision.
