Form 15G isn't about eligibility — it's a tax declaration. Claims get stuck when members either skip it when it's genuinely required, or get confused about whether it applies to their situation at all.
This is the most misunderstood rejection reason on this list. Here's what actually determines whether you need it:
If your continuous service (across employers, if transferred) is under 5 years, your withdrawal is taxable — this is when Form 15G matters. ✓ Submit Form 15G if income is below taxable limit
No TDS applies at all, regardless of amount. Form 15G isn't needed — but some members submit it anyway, unnecessarily. ✓ No Form 15G needed
EPFO doesn't deduct TDS on amounts under this threshold even within the 5-year window. ✓ No Form 15G needed
Form 15G is a declaration your total income is below the taxable threshold — if it isn't, you can't use it to avoid TDS. ✓ TDS applies; claim it back via ITR
Without PAN, TDS is deducted at a much higher flat rate regardless of Form 15G — link PAN first. ✓ Link PAN before refiling
Mismatched PAN, wrong assessment year, or missing signature on the physical/portal form. ✓ Resubmit corrected form
The exact sequence for this specific rejection reason.
Add up service across all linked UANs/employers. Under 5 years means your withdrawal is taxable and Form 15G may apply.
Form 15G is only valid if your total annual income (not just the PF amount) is below the basic exemption threshold for that financial year.
Without PAN, TDS applies at a much higher rate regardless of Form 15G — this often matters more than the form itself.
Fill it via the UAN portal at the time of claim filing, matching the current financial year exactly.
Once the form is correctly attached, resubmit your withdrawal claim (Form 19/10C). It should proceed without the same hold.
