FATHERs NAME DIFFERS
Where it appears: The rejection remark on Form 19 and 10C claims and on Form 13 transfers, under Track Claim Status.
Also "FATHERS NAME DIFFERS", "Father's name differs." and "Father name mismatch".
- What it means
- Your father's name in one EPFO record differs from another: between member IDs, or between the claim and your profile.
- The fix
- Correct the father's name through the member portal's basic-details correction (or a joint declaration through the employer), then refile.
- Get help when
- The old employer has closed, or the name is right everywhere you can see and it is still rejected.
I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login.
What it means
EPFO compares the father's or husband's name across your records. If one member ID or the claim carries a different spelling, an initial instead of the full name, or a different name altogether, the office rejects the claim until the records agree.
Why it happens
- An old member ID has the name spelt differently, or as an initial.
- The name was entered as your husband's on one ID and your father's on another.
- A typing error at the time the UAN was created.
What you can do yourself (free, on the EPFO portal)
Everything in this list is done on EPFO's own portal or with your employer, and none of it needs a paid agent. I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login, and nobody else should either.
- Check the father's name on View → Profile and on each member ID in your service history. Note every spelling.
- Raise a basic-details correction on the member portal for the wrong record, with a document showing the correct name. Your employer then approves it and it goes to EPFO.
- If the wrong name sits on an old employer's ID, the correction may need that employer's approval or a joint declaration.
- Refile only after the correction shows as approved.
- If nothing moves, file a grievance on EPFiGMS. It is EPFO's own grievance portal and it costs nothing. Quote your UAN and the exact message, and keep the grievance number.
When it needs help
- The old employer has shut down.
- The name looks the same everywhere and the claim is still rejected.
- A transfer and a withdrawal are both stuck on it.

Questions people ask about this message
The father's name looks correct to me. Why was it rejected?
Check every member ID, not just your profile. A difference on an old ID, even a spelling or an initial, is enough. If they truly match, file a grievance quoting the remark.
Can a small spelling difference cause this?
Yes. Offices often reject on spelling differences until the records agree.
