UAN CLAIM - CANCELLED CHEQUE NOT AS PER KYC BANK DETAILS
Where it appears: The rejection remark on online Form 19, 31 or 10C claims, under Track Claim Status.
The separator after "UAN CLAIM" varies in members' copies, and some show "Cancelled Chequed not as per KYC bank details".
- What it means
- The name, account number or IFSC on the uploaded cheque differs from the bank account seeded in your UAN's KYC.
- The fix
- Make the KYC bank account correct and verified first, then refile using that same account.
- Get help when
- The employer won't approve the bank KYC change, or the bank's name for you differs from EPFO's.
I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login.
What it means
The office compared the bank document you uploaded with the bank account in your KYC and they were not the same account, or the details on them differed. EPFO pays only into the KYC account, so it won't settle on a document for a different one.
Is this still happening? Much less. EPFO stopped requiring a cheque or passbook image for online claims from April 2025, because the bank account is already verified when it is seeded against your UAN (Ministry of Labour release). Most reports of this remark are from 2021 to 2024. If you see it on a claim today, the fix below still works.
Why it happens
- You uploaded a cheque from a different account than the one in KYC.
- The bank changed your IFSC after a merger and the KYC still has the old one.
- The name on the account differs from EPFO's record.
What you can do yourself (free, on the EPFO portal)
Everything in this list is done on EPFO's own portal or with your employer, and none of it needs a paid agent. I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login, and nobody else should either.
- Open Manage → KYC and note the bank account and IFSC shown as verified.
- If it's wrong or outdated, add the correct account in KYC; it then needs bank verification and your employer's approval where the portal asks for it.
- Once the correct account shows as verified, refile the claim to that account.
- If nothing moves, file a grievance on EPFiGMS. It is EPFO's own grievance portal and it costs nothing. Quote your UAN and the exact message, and keep the grievance number.
When it needs help
- Your employer has closed and can't approve the KYC change.
- Your name at the bank and in EPFO differ.
- It's rejected again after the KYC is corrected.

Questions people ask about this message
Can EPFO pay into a different account from my KYC one?
No. Claims are paid into the bank account seeded and verified in your KYC.
My bank merged and the IFSC changed. Is that the cause?
It can be. Update the IFSC in KYC so it matches the bank's current one, then refile.
