Invalid Bank Account Number. Kindly update your bank account details through self mode or employer
Where it appears: The EPFO member portal, against the bank account in your KYC, often discovered when you try to file a claim.
Some members see "(name mismatch)" after "Invalid Bank Account Number".
- What it means
- The bank account in your EPFO KYC failed verification: the account number, IFSC or the account holder's name didn't match the bank.
- The fix
- Update the bank account under Manage → KYC with the correct number and current IFSC, in your own name, then let it go through approval and verification.
- Get help when
- The update keeps failing, the name difference needs an EPFO correction, or a claim deadline is close.
I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login.
What it means
EPFO pays claims only into a bank account that has been verified against your KYC. This message says the account on file didn't pass that check, and asks you to update it yourself ("self mode") or through your employer.
Why it happens
- A typo in the account number.
- The IFSC changed, for example after your bank merged with another.
- The account is closed or dormant.
- The name on the bank account doesn't match the name in EPFO.
What you can do yourself (free, on the EPFO portal)
Everything in this list is done on EPFO's own portal or with your employer, and none of it needs a paid agent. I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login, and nobody else should either.
- Check the account number and IFSC against your passbook or cheque leaf. Use the IFSC your bank uses today.
- Make sure the account is active and in your own name, spelt the same way as in EPFO.
- Update it under Manage → KYC on the member portal.
- Follow its status on the same page. If it shows as waiting for the employer, see the "KYC Pending for Approval" page.
- File your claim only after the new account shows as verified.
When it needs help
- The name on your bank account and in EPFO differ and one of them must be corrected.
- You've updated the account more than once and it still fails.
- A claim was already rejected for this and you need it refiled correctly.
