KYC Pending for Approval
Where it appears: A status on the EPFO member portal's Manage → KYC page, after you add a bank account, PAN or another KYC document.
- What it means
- You've submitted the KYC detail and it's waiting for your employer to approve it digitally.
- The fix
- Ask HR to approve it in the employer portal. Once approved it moves to "Digitally Approved KYC".
- Get help when
- The employer has closed, won't respond, or keeps rejecting it.
I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login.
What it means
Adding KYC on the member portal is only half the job. The detail then waits for your employer to approve it with their digital signature. EPFO's FAQ says the bank and Aadhaar KYC must be approved by the employer for online claims, so until approval, claims that depend on it can't go through.
Why it happens
- HR hasn't logged in to approve pending KYC requests.
- The employer's digital signature isn't active, so they can't approve anything.
- You've left the job and the old employer isn't acting on requests any more.
What you can do yourself (free, on the EPFO portal)
Everything in this list is done on EPFO's own portal or with your employer, and none of it needs a paid agent. I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login, and nobody else should either.
- Note exactly which item is pending (bank, PAN or other) from Manage → KYC.
- Email HR with your UAN, the pending item and a request to approve it in the employer portal. Keep it short and specific.
- Check back after a few days. Once approved, the item shows under "Digitally Approved KYC". Bank details may then go through bank verification.
- If nothing moves, file a grievance on EPFiGMS. It is EPFO's own grievance portal and it costs nothing. Quote your UAN and the exact message, and keep the grievance number.
When it needs help
- The employer has shut down.
- HR has ignored written requests for weeks.
- The employer rejected it and you don't know why.
Which guide covers it

If your KYC is already approved and the claim was still rejected, this page won't help: read the rejection remark and see PF claim rejected. If the bank account shows as invalid, see "Invalid Bank Account Number".

Questions people ask about this message
How long does KYC approval take?
It depends entirely on when your employer acts. There's no automatic approval, which is why a polite written reminder to HR usually does more than waiting.
My old employer has closed. Can anyone else approve it?
Raise a grievance on EPFiGMS explaining that the employer is closed. My employer-not-cooperating guide covers the routes after that.
