Access to this functionality will remain blocked until the user successfully completes the nomination
Where it appears: The EPFO member portal, when you try to use an online service before filing a nomination.
- What it means
- The portal wants an e-nomination on your record before it lets you use this feature.
- The fix
- File e-nomination on the member portal and e-sign it with the Aadhaar OTP. Then try again.
- Get help when
- E-sign keeps failing, or the family details in your record are wrong.
I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login.
What it means
The portal has locked the feature you tried to use until your nomination is complete. Filing a nomination is something you can do yourself on the member portal, and it protects your family: without one, a death claim becomes much harder for them.
Why it happens
- You've never filed a nomination on the portal.
- You started e-nomination but didn't finish the e-sign step.
What you can do yourself (free, on the EPFO portal)
Everything in this list is done on EPFO's own portal or with your employer, and none of it needs a paid agent. I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login, and nobody else should either.
- Log in to the member portal and open Manage → E-Nomination.
- Add your family details and nominee(s), and the share for each nominee, exactly as the form asks.
- Save, then e-sign with the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile. The nomination isn't complete until it's e-signed.
- Go back to the feature you wanted; it should now open.
When it needs help
- The e-sign step fails every time.
- Your marital status or family details in EPFO are wrong and need correcting first.
- You're filing on behalf of a family member after a death (that is a death claim, not a nomination).
