Error! UAN password not available.
Where it appears: The EPFO member passbook website, when you try to log in with your UAN.
- What it means
- There is no member-portal password for this UAN yet, usually because the UAN was never activated.
- The fix
- Activate your UAN on the EPFO member portal, set a password, then log in to the passbook with the same UAN and password.
- Get help when
- Activation fails, the OTP goes to an old number, or your details don't match Aadhaar.
I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login.
What it means
The passbook website uses the same UAN and password as the EPFO member portal. This message means EPFO has no password on record for your UAN, so there's nothing to check your login against.
Why it happens
- Your employer generated your UAN but you never activated it on the member portal.
- You activated it very recently and the passbook site hasn't picked it up yet.
- You're typing a different UAN from the one you activated (people with two UANs hit this).
What you can do yourself (free, on the EPFO portal)
Everything in this list is done on EPFO's own portal or with your employer, and none of it needs a paid agent. I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login, and nobody else should either.
- Go to the EPFO member portal and choose Activate UAN. Enter your UAN, Aadhaar, name, date of birth and mobile number, and confirm with the OTP.
- Set your password, then log in to the member portal once to check it works.
- Now log in to the passbook website with the same UAN and password. If it still shows the same message straight after activation, try again a few hours later.
- If the OTP doesn't arrive, your mobile number in EPFO is probably old. See the OTP guide linked below.
When it needs help
- Activation fails because your details don't match Aadhaar.
- You have two UANs and don't know which one holds your money.
- OTPs go to a number you no longer have.
