Date of exit can only be updated after 2 months of last contribution made by the employer
Where it appears: The EPFO member portal, under Manage → Mark Exit, when you select a Member ID.
- What it means
- Two months haven't passed since the last PF contribution on that Member ID.
- The fix
- Check the last contribution month in your passbook, wait until two months after it, then mark exit yourself.
- Get help when
- Contributions are still arriving after you left, or the dates overlap with your new job.
I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login.
What it means
The member portal lets you mark your own date of exit, but only once two months have passed since the employer's last contribution for that Member ID. Until then it shows this message and won't let you continue.
Why it happens
- You left recently.
- Your final month's PF, or arrears, were deposited later than your last working day, so the "last contribution" is more recent than you think.
- You selected the Member ID of your current job by mistake.
What you can do yourself (free, on the EPFO portal)
Everything in this list is done on EPFO's own portal or with your employer, and none of it needs a paid agent. I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login, and nobody else should either.
- Open your passbook for that Member ID and note the month of the last contribution.
- Wait until two months after that month.
- Go to Manage → Mark Exit, select the Member ID, enter the date of exit and reason, and confirm with the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
- Pick a date of exit that fits your last contribution month and does not overlap your next job's date of joining. Members report that a date submitted here can't be edited online afterwards, so check it twice.
When it needs help
- Contributions keep arriving after you left, so the two-month window never opens.
- Your exit date would overlap your new job's joining date.
- You need the exit marked urgently for a claim or BGV.
