EPFO 3.0 UPI and ATM withdrawal: what is actually live for members
EPFO's Central Board of Trustees approved the EPFO 3.0 framework on 13 October 2025. The official release promises "instant withdrawals"; UPI and ATM come from the Minister's statements and press reports. As of my last check no member can withdraw PF through UPI or an ATM. This page tracks what is live and what to do meanwhile.
Can I withdraw my PF through UPI or an ATM today?
Not yet, as of my last check on 30 October 2026. EPFO's Central Board of Trustees approved the EPFO 3.0 digital framework at its meeting on 13 October 2025, and the official release speaks of "instant withdrawals". A year on there is no UPI or ATM withdrawal option on the member portal or UMANG, and no EPFO or PIB notice says one has launched. Claims still go through the online claim form; auto-settlement is the fastest route if your record is clean.
Current status
Announced, not live. On 13 October 2025 EPFO's Central Board of Trustees approved the EPFO 3.0 framework, a core-banking style platform to be built in phases. The official release promises "faster, automated claims, instant withdrawals, multilingual self-service". It does not use the words UPI or ATM; those come from the Labour Minister's public remarks and the press coverage that followed. As of the date at the top of this page, there is no UPI or ATM withdrawal option on the member portal, on UMANG, or in any EPFO or PIB communication to members.
I wrote about the earlier part of EPFO 3.0, the CITES migration and the auto-settlement limit, in what EPFO 3.0 actually means for PF members. The scepticism in that post still applies: the announcement is real, the member-facing feature is not, and the two keep getting confused in news coverage.
This page doesn't help if your claim is already rejected or stuck. When UPI withdrawal arrives it will work only on clean records. See PF claim rejected or instant PF withdrawal stuck.
What has been announced
| Item | Status | Where I checked |
|---|---|---|
| Board approval of the EPFO 3.0 framework ("instant withdrawals") | Approved 13 Oct 2025 | PIB release of the 238th CBT meeting |
| UPI and ATM named as the channel | Minister's remarks and press only | Not in the CBT release, the minutes or the 239th meeting release of 2 Mar 2026 |
| Member-facing UPI withdrawal option | Not live | Member portal, UMANG, 30 Oct 2026 |
| ATM withdrawal (card or cardless) | Not live | Same |
| Instant amount cap | Not published | The 75% figure is the general partial-withdrawal ceiling, now paragraph 46 of the EPF Scheme 2026 (see PF partial withdrawal rules 2026), not a UPI limit |
| Launch date | None announced | Press reports a December 2026 target; EPFO has not said so |
| Auto-settlement of eligible claims | Live (existing) | Member portal |
What you can do yourself for free
Everything here is on EPFO's own services and costs nothing. I never ask for your OTP, UAN password or bank login.
- Log in to the member portal and open Manage → KYC. Aadhaar, PAN and bank must show as verified, not just uploaded. This is the precondition for any fast settlement, now or later.
- Check View → Service History for a missing date of exit on your last job. An unmarked exit blocks withdrawals whatever the channel.
- If you need money now, file the normal online claim. Clean records are often auto-settled within days.
- If a claim is pending beyond the usual time, raise a grievance on EPFiGMS.
What has not changed
- The claim forms, the KYC requirements and the employer's role in marking exits are the same.
- Nobody from EPFO will call you to "activate" UPI withdrawal. EPFO's own services are free, and NidhiSetu is independent and not affiliated with EPFO.
- A rejection remark still has to be fixed at the record. No new channel bypasses it.
How I keep this page current
I check the member portal, UMANG and EPFO's circulars and press releases, and I add a dated changelog entry when something changes. The status badge at the top moves from Announced to Partially live to Live only when I can see the option on EPFO's own services.
What this means for you
If you are an employee
- Nothing to do yet. There is no app, card or UPI handle to set up, and anyone offering to "activate" PF-on-UPI for a fee is not from EPFO.
- When it goes live it will depend on a clean KYC: Aadhaar, PAN and bank account all showing as verified on the member portal. Fix those now.
- A pending claim is not sped up by the announcement. Track it on the portal or UMANG as before.
If you are an employer
- Members will only be able to use it if you have approved their KYC and marked exits on time. Unmarked exits will still block withdrawals.
- Expect a wave of employee questions when the feature launches; the member side needs no employer action beyond KYC approval.
Changelog
What I checked, and when. The newest entry is first.
- Checked the member portal, UMANG, epfo.gov.in press releases and PIB: no UPI or ATM withdrawal option and no official launch notice. Press reports say EPFO is testing UPI withdrawal with banks and aims for a launch by December 2026; that is reporting, not an EPFO statement. The next board meeting is reported for 19 November 2026. Status stays Announced.
- 239th CBT meeting: 8.25% interest for 2025-26, the new EPF, EPS and EDLI Schemes 2026, an amnesty for exempted trusts. Nothing on UPI or ATM withdrawal.
- Ministry release on the October reforms: 75% of the eligible PF balance withdrawable without documents, 25% held as minimum balance. This is where the "75%" in circulation comes from; it is not a UPI or ATM limit.
- 238th CBT meeting approved the EPFO 3.0 framework: a core-banking style platform built in phases, promising "faster, automated claims, instant withdrawals". UPI and ATM are not named in the release or the minutes; they come from the Minister's public remarks.

Waiting for UPI withdrawal won't fix a stuck claim
Most people who ask me about EPFO 3.0 have a claim that is already pending or rejected. The new channel won't touch that: it is a payment route for clean records, not a fix for a broken one.
If your claim is stuck, send me the exact status or rejection remark and I'll tell you what is actually blocking it and whether you can clear it yourself.

Questions people ask
Is PF withdrawal through UPI live?
Not as of my last check (see the date at the top). EPFO's board approved the EPFO 3.0 framework in October 2025, but no member-facing UPI or ATM option exists on the portal or UMANG, and neither EPFO nor PIB has announced a launch.
Will I need a new card or app?
EPFO has not published the member-side process yet. Until it does, treat any card, app or activation offer as a scam. EPFO's own services are free and run through the member portal and UMANG.
Will UPI withdrawal cover the full balance?
No official limit has been published. The 75% figure you may have seen is the general partial-withdrawal ceiling, now written into paragraph 46 of the EPF Scheme 2026 (25% of the total balance stays in the account as the Minimum Balance); it is not a UPI or ATM limit. See the PF partial withdrawal rules 2026 for the full table. I'll state a UPI limit only when EPFO publishes one.
My claim is pending. Does this change anything?
No. A pending claim follows the existing process. Track it on the portal, and if it is stuck beyond the usual time, raise a grievance on EPFiGMS.
How will I know when it goes live?
I update this page with a dated changelog entry when I verify a change on EPFO's own services, and I send one WhatsApp to people on the alerts list.
